TalentRater’s Review of Metallica in Concert

By Joseph C. Bennett

On October 25, 2018, I had the greatest concert experience of my life. I attended my very 1st Metallica concert at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. Comedian Jim Breuer opened the show and had us cracking up. At one point he called out for the oldest and youngest in the audience to come forward which turned out to be a 79 year old woman and a 5 year old boy. Jim told us “You’re all part of the Metallica family now.” Finally he led the audience in a Me – tal – li- ca chant. After the Metallica chant completed, the lights went out and it was not long until the legendary band members showed up on stage and the entire stadium screamed and pandemonium! All except the bassist now had white hair signature of their long journey in music. My favorite songs were played. “Master of Puppets”, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”, One, Nothing Else Matters, Creeping Death, Seek and Destroy, and more.

I have been to many concerts and music festivals but this Metallica concert was by far the best experience of my life!  For those of you that have never been to a Metallica concert, I highly recommend going and joining the Metallica family.  This was my first Metallica concert experience but it certainly won’t be the last.  I plan on taking my two children next time, Joseph Jr. and Maria.  My review of this concert is without a doubt, 5 stars!  This concert event was truly one of the best experiences of my life.  The music and the crowd was electric!

Metallica was formed in 1981 and I have been a diehard fan since my freshman year in high school when I learned about them through a friend. Metallica’s songs have long ministered to me helping me to channel my angry feelings through music.

In 1981 the band was made up of:

James Hetfield – Vocals and guitar

Kirk Hammett – Lead Guitar

Lars Ulrich – Drums

Cliff Burton – Bass

Cliff Burton was a phenomenal bassist and his bass lines in Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) and Orion are some of the best in the history of music. In September of 1986, Cliff died in a fatal bus crash and the band recruited bassist Jason Newsted. The band has all its original members except for bass. Their current bassist is Robert Trujillo who came on board in 2003.

Any band that can say they have been well loved by fans worldwide for 37 years is nothing less than legendary!  My review of Metallica in concert at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA is 5 stars.  A truly amazing experience!  I believe Metallica will continue to rock the big stage for many years to come as one of the greatest rock bands of all time!
